Editorial Standards
Our commitment to accuracy, transparency, and uplifting journalism
Our Mission
Good News England exists to highlight the positive stories happening across England every day. In a media landscape often dominated by negative headlines, we believe uplifting news deserves dedicated coverage.
We focus exclusively on constructive, solution-focused journalism that celebrates community achievements, local heroes, scientific progress, and positive developments across 50 English cities.
Content Standards
Every story we publish adheres to these principles:
- Positivity: We only publish stories that are genuinely uplifting, inspiring, or solution-focused. Each article receives a positivity score to ensure it meets our standards.
- Accuracy: We verify facts and source information from reputable outlets including The Guardian, BBC, local news sources, and verified community reports.
- Local relevance: Every story is contextualised for its specific city, including local landmarks, institutions, and community details.
- Timeliness: We publish fresh content daily at 6:00 AM UTC, covering recent positive developments.
- Originality: While we draw inspiration from news sources, every article is uniquely written with original analysis and local context.
Technology-Assisted Journalism
We believe in full transparency about how we create content. Good News England uses a combination of human editorial oversight and AI technology to deliver daily positive news at scale.
How We Use AI
- Story discovery: We use automated systems to scan reputable news sources and identify positive stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.
- Content creation: AI assists in drafting articles based on verified source material, ensuring consistent quality and tone across all cities.
- Positivity filtering: Automated systems help filter out negative or sensationalist content, ensuring only genuinely uplifting stories make it through.
- Image generation: Featured images are created using AI to visually represent each story's theme.
Human Oversight
- Editorial guidelines and content standards are set and maintained by humans
- Source selection and verification processes are human-designed
- Quality standards and positivity criteria are human-defined
- Reader feedback is reviewed by humans to improve content quality
- Technical systems are regularly audited for accuracy and bias
We view AI as a tool that enables us to cover more positive news across more cities than would otherwise be possible. Our commitment to accuracy, positivity, and quality remains paramount regardless of the technology used.
