No ads · No shareholders · No paywall — ever

Where your support goes.

Good News England is reader-funded — no advertisers, no shareholders, no paywall. Here’s exactly what that money does, what we’ve built, and what we’re still working toward. We’d rather be honest about what isn’t finished than promise things that aren’t real.

The honest numbers

supporters backing us right now

It costs about £50 a month to keep Good News England online — hosting, images, the tools that fact-check and publish. Roughly twenty supporters cover that entirely. Everything beyond it doesn’t go to ads or shareholders — there aren’t any. It grows the good news.

What we’re building

Honest status on each thing — live, in progress, or still a goal.

  • Good news for every town

    Happening now

Positive local stories about English towns — the wins the rest of the news cycle skips. This is happening now, and your support means more of it.

  • Open doors for young writers

    Building now

The Press Box gives young and aspiring writers a real byline and real experience — a foot in the door that’s hard to come by anywhere else. Real local people, real bylines, each piece edited before it runs. Your support keeps those doors open, and helps us grow it.

  • Getting the name out

    Building now

Good News England is one person and a small team. Reaching more people in more towns — so the good news actually finds the people it’s about — is slow, ongoing work your support directly helps.

  • An app for your phone

    On the roadmap

A Good News England app for iPhone and Android, so your town’s good news is one tap away. This is a real goal — but it is not built yet, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Your support is what gets us there.

  • Good News Scotland & Wales

    On the roadmap

We’ve secured goodnewscotland.co.uk and goodnewswales.co.uk, with Good News Britain as the home for the whole family. The nations aren’t live yet — England comes first — but the plan is to bring the same good news, town by town, to Scotland and Wales too.
